In the spirit of accountability and with the new year well and truly under way, I thought it worth writing down some plans for the coming year that I would like to achieve as part of my ongoing artistic development. These stem mainly from perceived areas of weakness and things I feel I could be of benefit.

  • Paint small and often – ala Daily Painting – (my plan is 3 times a week at this stage) to allow for more experimentation and help hone a personal style (which really only comes with painting a lot)
  • Maintain regular life drawing practice, coupled with additional figure drawing and anatomy studies to gain a better understanding of proportions and how the human form works and moves
  • A small dabble in oil paints has piqued my curiosity enough to seek more formal learning opportunities in the medium
  • Add additional features to my website and allow for an expanded gallery section and for art sales to be made directly through the site
  • Improve my use of social media to help both the marketing of my work and to form strong relationships with other artists
  • Either join or start some form of a mastermind group, whereby plans, goals, feedback and accountability can be given and received on a regular basis

If I can make great strides in these areas during 2015, I reckon I will have had a very successful year.

A list such as this can only take you so far though – once again it simply comes down to doing the work.
