Over this past month I’ve scaled back my expectations on what I can actually achieve so as to give my mind a bit of a breather before ramping up to go again in the last quarter of the year.

There is still an ever present urge to bust out the sketch book which is placated by the odd life drawing session (not nearly as often as I would like but again I can work on improving that in the last quarter) and a sketch or two when I catch the train to work.

We recently went for a weekend camping trip up at Mambray Creek in the Flinders Ranges. It was fantastic to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to a place out of phone range to sit back and embrace the simpler things in life while taking in the magnificent scenery with friends and family.

I still managed to sneak down to the creek with my sketch book and a cool beverage to quickly capture some of the surrounds. There was a lovely moment when my young daughter appeared at my side with a blank pad and her coloured pencils to join me in a bit of artmaking.

The weekend was a good reminder to regularly take a step back, not take everything so seriously, switch off and take in the wonders that this great world we live in has to offer.
